A 500-acre ancient woodland of Oak and coppiced areas, broadleaved and conifer plantations, and a heritage of experimental plots and specimen trees dating from 1905. It is owned by St John's College, who carry out some commercial forestry. The wood is open access (closed one day per year). Park on the Bagley Wood Road verge at SP514014.
 
It is also possible to access the wood from Kennington via the footbridge at SP515028.
