A very large site, previously a military airfield, which has restored to its original status as heathland. It is the largest single area of lowland heathland remaining in Berks, Bucks and Oxon. It is managed by BBOWT on behalf of West Berks council. Parking beside the old control tower at SU499652 off Bury's Bank Road (opens 8am; donation requested). There are also car parks at Pyle Hill (RG19 3BX, SU484652) and Crookham Common (RG19 8EJ, SU524645) which are open 24 hours a day.

Accessibility: Good, firm, level paths. In dry weather many grass areas accessible.
